Leeds extended Burnley’s unbeaten streak at home to nine games with a 4-0 win on Saturday, cementing their bid to enter the Premier League’s top 10.
Substitute Rodrigo has scored the last two goals, giving Leeds a four-point lead over 11th-ranked Aston Villa at Crystal Palace on Sunday.
Mateusz Klich completed a counterattack shortly before the break in the shot, and Jack Harrison doubled the gap at the hour mark, almost repelling Ezdjian Alioski’s kick from a low point into the net.
Burnley, who won 2-0 at Fulham on Monday to secure top division status for the sixth straight season, has not won at Turf Moore since a 3-2 win against Aston Villa on 27 January.
Leeds, who returned to the Premier League this season after a 16-year absence, will be at Southampton on Tuesday.
Liverpool will visit Turf Moore on Wednesday.
Southampton beat out-of-pocket Fulham
Nathan Tella scored his first goal for Southampton on Saturday 3-1 over the already relegated Fulham in the Premier League.
The midfielder left the bench to score second, while Fulham consoled 18-year-old Fabio Carvalho, who scored his first goal for the London club.
Southampton took the lead in the first half when Che Adams scored a free kick from James Ward-Prowse.
A second after entering the field at the hour mark, Tella reacted to the finish line.
While Southampton seemed to be rapidly approaching all three points, Carvalho played one goal in favor of Fulham, hitting hard from the bottom of the crossbar.
However, less than 10 minutes later, substitute Theo Walcott regained the Saints’ two-goal lead with an accurate result.
With Fulham’s fate already sealed this season, boss Scott Parker has decided to give a chance to some players who haven’t played in a significant way this season, including the first starting start for teenager Carvalho.
Southampton climbed to 13th place with two games remaining.
