On Saturday, an Israeli airstrike destroyed a high-rise building in Gaza City that housed the offices of the Associated Press and other media outlets.
All AP staff and freelancers were safely evacuated from the building. AP President and CEO Gary Pruitt issued the following statement: “We are shocked and terrified that the Israeli military will target and destroy the building that houses the AP bureau and other news organizations in Gaza. They had known the location of our bureau for a long time and knew that there were journalists there. We received a warning about the defeat of the building. We seek information from the Israeli government and are working with the US Department of State to find out more. ”
“This is an incredibly disturbing event. We narrowly escaped the terrible loss of life. A dozen AP journalists and freelancers were inside the building and luckily we were able to evacuate them in time. Because of what has happened today, the world will know less about what is happening in Gaza, ”the statement said.
