PORTLAND, Maine (AP) – A 96-year-old wooden schooner built in Freeport has returned to its home state after being purchased from owners in Massachusetts.
The 53-foot Heart’s Desire will join a handful of historic Portland Schooner Co. vessels, according to the Bangor Daily News. reported… Other schooners built in Maine are Wendameen, Bagheera and Timberwind.
“Our brand: Built in Maine, wood, historic and authentic,” said Scott Reischmann. “We will never buy a boat that is not built in Maine.”
Heart’s Desire was designed by renowned naval architect John Alden and built at TH Soule Shipyard in Freeport for AS Nielson of Marblehead, Massachusetts.
