Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga said on Friday that the state of emergency is spreading to a wider area due to the rapid increase in the number of coronavirus cases in these regions.
But he added that hosting a “safe and secure” Olympic Games is possible if tough preventive measures are taken to prevent ordinary Japanese from coming into contact with those arriving in connection with the Games.
The Olympic Games, postponed for a year due to the pandemic, are due to start on July 23rd.
